Happy 9 Year Old!

Nothing fancy, just a German chocolate cake decorated with "4th" was Evan's only request for his 9th birthday! Although simple, it spoke loud and clear how much being moved to 4th grade has meant to Evan. We enjoyed his favorite foods for dinner (hot chicken salad, sweet potatoes, and red salad). When the time came to blow out candles, Kyle was seated far away from Evan to take care of the problem we have had in the past of blowing out someone else's candles! Evan enjoyed opening up his presents. It was a simple birthday, but it was the perfect opportunity to see how happy Evan is about everything now.

One a side note... It was funny, when I took Evan's birthday treats to school over lunch, his teacher made a point of telling me about a note she had just run across in her files. Scribbled on the side of one of her planning sheets for the Thanksgiving dinner the 4th graders always put on for the senior citizens of the church was "Evan William, 8 pounds 6 ounces." We laughed because she had written it down when it was announced at school that he had been born. Hard to believe it has been nine years!
